Your Bio

My name is Art Kuntz (pronounced Koontz) and I was raised along with a brother and 2 sisters in North Dakota. I spent 4 years in the Navy and obtained a BS in Computer Science after I was discharged from the Navy. My wife and I live in Redmond, WA and we have resided in Washington State since 1977. I work as an IT project manager for a manufacturer in Kent, WA. I have been working professionally in the technology field for 30 years in a variety of highly technical positions. I have been interested in photography since College and I have had periods of time throughout my adult life that I have spent working with a 35mm SLR film camera that I purchased in College. I worked mostly with color print film during these periods of time. I felt that working with film made it very difficult for me to improve my photographic skills so I put up my camera for the final time about 15 years ago or so I thought. In the summer of 2004 my wife and I decided to take a driving vacation through Montana. I bought a point and shoot style digital camera so we could have a record of our trip. I was surprised and delighted with the quality of the pictures and the immediacy of the technology. The ability to see the results of your photography immediately really got me excited about photography again. During the rest of 2004 I continued to roam around the Seattle area and other areas of Washington State taking pictures and by the end of 2004 I was hooked. Since then I have continued to try and improve my design and composition skills. I have been shooting with a digital SLR since the end of 2005 and I have really gotten passionate about my photography. Since I have a very technical background I have taken to the digital darkroom like a duck to water. I do all of my own post production processing in my digital lab at home. The digital work flow is a key part of the creative process for me when working with a digital camera. I have a broad range of subjects that interest me. Some of my favorite subjects include Flowers, old barns and buildings, Sunrise/Sunsets, Boats, Puget Sound, the mountains, and waterfalls. The goal I have with all my compositions is to convey a sense of the beauty and wonder that I see in my subjects in a way that the viewer has not seen or noticed before. My work has been featured in several local juried shows.
